Ruhrgebiet part 2

Ruhrgebiet part 2

Saturday… we had confirmed breakfast at 8:30 and the employee of the hotel is like a mother to us. Cooks fresh eggs and keeps asking us if we need anything else. And tells us to take some sandwiches as she would have to throw away the left-overs. Good – so we don’t have to worry about lunch and dinner. 😉
We leave around 10 and he first stop is the Tetraeder in Bottrop. We have to walk uphill but it is not too bad. The Tetraeder is rather high. Not sure HOW high. There are three platforms that you can go up to. I make it to the first one but the bottom is see-through so I don’t continue. Katrin goes up to the third one. I am sure the view from up there is nice – it just wasn’t for me. 😉 It drizzles a bit but then stops. We have some nice conversations with other people up there. Random encounters – fun… 🙂

Next stop is Zeche Zollverein in Essen. It is a UNESCO World Heritage. I had seen pics of the illumination at night but didn’t really know what to expect. It was a much bigger area than I had thought. We walked around and found some random cool photo-spots. And I was amazed at how colourful some things were although they most definitely were in decay. One fun photo-spot were the (rolling) stairs up to the museum. We kept having to stop taking pics because so many people went up there. It might be interesting but we were more interested in the stairs going up there. 😀 And one thing: we ate CURRYWURST (sausage with a curry sauce) there. Katrin told me that we couldn’t go to the Ruhrgebiet area and not eat Currywurst. 😀 We didn’t order the french fries though…
