SA-Botswana – day 9
With a heavy heart we got up early again to say good bye to the Serolo Safari Camp/Tuli Wilderness . I would really, really like to thank SK, Kennedy and Kito and the women for all that they did for us. In addition to the wild life we were able to experience here they went above and beyond to make our stay an unforgettable one. The days there were most definitely the best of our trip. Unfortunately all good times end and we had to go back to South Africa.
SK drove us over in the jeep. Procedure was the same at the border and then we were at the farm where our rental car was waiting for us. Then we had to hurry up a bit because it was a long drive and we stayed inside a National Park that closes the doors at 6 PM. So we didn’t stop for lunch. When we stopped for restroom break at a gas station our mentor walked around the car and luckily he heard the noise one of the tires was making. That meant… change of a tire was necessary. Lucky for us that we were in a gas station and could loan a lifting jack as our rental car didn’t seem to have one. Change was done within half an hour and we were on the road again. We stopped in Thabazimbi to get food in a supermarket since the camp in Marakele National Park is self catering. When we arrived at the park we were on time to get in. It was funny because at the gate was a guy who looked like he was straight out of ghostbusters. 😉 They are desinfecting all cars going in and out of the National Park due to foot-and-mouth-disease which seems to be an issue in the area.
We went into our tents, had to put all food in the kitchens – which are locked due to the monkeys. I heard the monkeys on the roof of my tent but didn’t see them.
