Norway 2021 Day 1
Originally I had booked a whale watching trip for November 2020 but it was not possible to go last year so 2021 – new chance… travelling is a challenge though so until I finally boarded the plane in Frankfurt I cancelled, rebooked, cancelled, changed plans… never done it like that before. The original plan had been to go to Kirkenes first and take the Hurtigruten to Tromso from there. But then Covid lasted longer than we had thought a year ago. So in the end I skipped Kirkenes entirely because there were no tours and nothing to do at this time of the year. Instead I flew directly to Tromso where my friends Claudia and Markus were already waiting. I was still at the airport when I got the messages to hurry because the northern lights were dancing. Unfortunately it is difficult to hurry when you are waiting for a taxi. 😀 Finally I got one and shared it with my seat-neighbour from the plane. Since hotels in Tromso are usually very close to each other that was easy to do.
So I finally arrived at the hotel, checked in, threw my stuff in my room, got out tripod and camera gear and went down to the water to find Claudia and Markus. But it was difficult to take good pictures as there is no ‚free‘ view over to the Ice Cathedral and the other side of the fjord and lots of light make Aurora-photography difficult. And I was still a bit hectic so I don’t really have good pics of that evening. The BIG show ended anyway when I arrived. But on the pics from later that evening I did find some pink with the green. Nothing much to tell from that day as my plane landed at 7 PM so when the green went on break we went to have dinner at Pastafabrikken and after that some more pictures before we went back to the hotel. The last pic is the view from my hotel room the next morning and then two pics that I took with my mobile phone.
