Iceland day 2 and 3

Iceland day 2 and 3

The next day I had decided to walk up to Perland – a nature exploration center with a 360° view over Reykjavik and surrounding areas. So I left the hotel after breakfast. Walking up there was nice and the view from the observation deck was wonderful. After I had enough I walked back to the hotel by passing a park and other landmarks. I didn’t overdo it though. In the evening around nine suddenly the fire alarm in the hotel went off. I took my most important things and went outside. When I came down I saw only other guests but nobody from the hotel. Since we were in a second building I went to reception and asked if they knew that there was a fire alarm in the other building – they didn’t. The lady came running after me and switched off the alarm – laughing and telling us that someone had obviously taken a too hot shower. To explain that: Reykjavik gets it’s water from geothermal areas. In fact when you open the water in the bath room it stinks and taking a shower is usually with really hot water. So I was told later during check-out that this happens regularly because there are fire-alarms in the showers. Which I think is stupid in the first place. But…

The next morning I checked out to switch hotels because my friend K. was arriving later in the day and we were going to start our long planned Iceland-adventure together. The new room was nice and bigger than the other one I had before. Only at 5 PM the boom-boom-boom from the pub next door started. It was LOUD (and I am used to noise). I went out for some shopping in the afternoon and found that my favorite Christmas Shop had not closed as I had thought. So I was happy to pay them a visit. 😀 There is a lot of (street) art in Reykjavik so I took pics of that as well.

Once K. had arrived we walked around to find a restaurant to get something to eat and we ended up in a Koffihuus. A cafe what has warm meals but you can eat cake for dinner as well. We had warm meals and they were great. After that we went to take pics of the Harpa (Opera house) and the Sun Voyager statue in the dark. The Harpa was illuminated and kept changing colours but the Sun Voyager was not illuminated so it was a bit difficult to take good pics. We tried to illuminate it ourselves with lamps but didn’t get the results we wanted. So we finally left to go back to the hotel. It was raining again too – which was to become a pattern for the rest of our trip. When we arrived at the hotel it was nearly midnight which was good because due to Covid-restrictions the boom-boom-boom pub next door had to close at midnight and in fact the music was shut down almost on time so we could get some sleep. Here are pics from those two days…
