Iceland 26 – day 9

Today was our ‚turning around day‘. We didn’t have to go far though and since the weather wasn’t very bad we decided to go east again. Just outside of Höfn we stopped and I sent the drone up from a parking area. We could already see Stokksnes/Vestrahorn from there. Three days before we had booked the night at the Viking Cafe there but weather had been too bad to go there. I have been at the Viking Cafe before and liked it. It was good to see that they had extended the cafe so there is more space now. They seem to have more rooms as well. From the cafe there is a private road from where you can see the landmark-mountain Vestrahorn. What is new is that you need to pay now for each person who is going there – even if you walk. In the past you just paid per car. I went inside and chatted with the lady in the cafe. When I told her that we had cancelled our rooms but didn’t get the money back because the cancellation day was too late she asked me if we wanted to have a ticket for the road. So we got something for our money after all. 😉 But she was nice because I hadn’t asked – she had offered. So we went for a photo session. And for the first time I saw the Vestrahorn in it’s entirety. In the past there were always clouds that covered part of the mountain. 🙂
When we got back we had a coffee at the Cafe and then I went to ask if it was allowed to fly a drone. It was. And I was offered another ticket to go in. The ladies were really, really nice that day. 🙂 So I let the drone up but we didn’t stay long. As soon as I had gotten out my drone another car stopped and it was someone else with a drone…. So it is not that good if there are too many drones. You need to coordinate in order to not collide in the air. I took some pics and then we got back in the car and went back towards the Hali Guesthouse close to the Diamond Beach where we had already stayed on our way up east. Along the road we drove into a side-road and found trolls. 😉 Once back at Hali we went to the area where there are chairs and sofas for guests to chat and have a coffee so we sat there. And saw the luggage of a smaller ‚Asia express‘. 😉
