Niue 9
And then we were already on our last day on Niue… the water was a bit choppy that day and we had to go to Alofi to get in the water. In general there are two places where the zodiacs can go in the water. One is a small beach close to the hotel, the other one is the harbor in Alofi. The boats have kinds of cranes that lift them in and out of the water. So Niue Blue always decides in the mornings (or afternoons) where to go. Depends on the weather and where the whales have been seen. So on our last day we went out with Roxy again and while I am sad that Ant was not with us that morning it was good for me that a different guide was there. The rest of the group wanted to start looking for dolphins instead of whales and we were very, very lucky to find a pod of maybe 100 dolphins. To snorkel with them no fins allowed and you have to hold on to a rope attached to the boat. I was not sure that I would be able to do that. I wanted to but was really a bit afraid I couldn’t do that. But Flo, the guide, started to talk to me. He very gently convinced me that I needed to go in. He promised to help me and hold on to me and that is what he did. I am still grateful to him that he convinced me that I was able to go in. As you can see below I have lots of pics of the dolphins (not edited yet). I was not in the water very long but there is a pic of me coming out of the water with that big smile on my face. My wrists hurt badly in the evening but I would do it again. It was well worth the pain. 😉
With whales we were not very lucky that day but that was okay. We went snorkelling at the coast a bit to finish our last tour with the whales.
I would really like to thank the team of Niue Blue for making this stay for us so unbelieveably special. Their knowledge of the whales is big and when we had a sonar and listened to the whales singing – that was a bit scary sometimes. 😀 😉 I heard the whales singing in the water as well and that was beautiful. While diving I heard Simon, the singer, again as well and he can’t have been far away from us. It is a very special experience to go diving or snorkelling with Niue Blue and there is a high chance that I will go back… 😉
On our last evening there was the restaurant where we had gone to eat most evenings and they had a DJ. Part of the Niue Blue team came over as well and we went there after our dinner. It was a very special party. A big group seems to be a community from Tonga. And boy, the can celebrate. I was impressed by three ladies sitting at a table and it obviously one of them was birthday girl. They were so happy. Just looking at them makes you feel good. The entire community was like that. Pure south pacific happynes… from what we heard they celebrated until 4 AM in the morning. But the next morning when we were at breakfast we saw a wedding party coming in for a reception at 7:30 AM. And that were the same people we had seen at the party the evening before. The wedding was at 6:30. Looks like sleep is way overrated… 😉 😀
