Niue 7
Here you will get some more pics from my drone. We had to unblock our drones to fly them at the hotel because the hotel is too close to the airport. Since there are only two flights per week (well, we heard one plane departing on a saturday evening but that was Medivac not a regular flight) it doesn’t make sense to block drones all the time. So we registered and asked for permission and were unblocked for the days without flights. I flew my drone very early in the morning shortly after sunrise. While being at breakfast whales were coming in and I went to get my drone again. There was a german film team who were working on a documentary about Niue for a german/french TV station and they were flying their drone as well we coordinated in order to avoid a collision of our drones. I finally got my video of the mom with the baby. No special action like breaches or spy hopping but I wanted my pics of whales from the air and I got them. Took some pics of the resort and surrounding coastline as well. When the drone came back I should have just landed it on the terrace of the hotel from where I started it. But I didn’t. I wanted to stay in practice to get hold of the drone with my hand while it is still in the air (if you are flying a drone on a zodiac you need to be able to do that). I never even thought about this being dangerous. When I caught a rotor with one of my fingers I found out that it IS dangerous. The drone fell down face down and the camera was broken. I couldn’t fly it any more. Of course this was unnecessary but I have learned from it. By now I know that it is better to avoid catching it by hand and I have a new drone because I have insurance. 😉
