Strasbourg – 1
I need to go back in time a bit to explain why I went there… Last year I had the crazy idea to go on a ‚pensioner‘ revival in New York. I have colleagues with whom I spent a lot of time in New York for business a long time ago. We are retired now and New York had been an important time in our working lifes. Unfortunately I realized that it was not a good idea because back then the thing we did the most after work back was WALK. And that is what I still can do only to a certain extend. So we kept the general idea of meeting but moved the place to something closer. In the end we decided on Strasbourg.
I had never been there so I went earlier than the other two to explore already some before they arrived. I took the ICE from Cologne to Karlsruhe, had to switch there (there was construction going on somewhere so it was a but more complicated to go) to a regional train – which was crowded – and then switched in a village in the middle of nowhere to a tram to Strasbourg. The tram was crowded even more but it was only 20 minutes so not really a big deal. Once arrived in Strasbourg I went to the hotel which was opposite the train station (you have to ring the bell to get in even during the day – for security reasons). I was curious, the sun was shining so I started to explore immediately. Since I had skipped lunch I started to get hungry in the afternoon but found out that a lot of restaurants/brasseries close the kitchen in the afternoon. So no food for me. Went to the supermarket and that is where I got dinner. 😉 But I had a good day.
