Madeira 2

The first morning we got up early for sunrise. That usually meant that we left the hotel shortly before 6 AM. That morning we went to a spot close to the airport. I always find it interesting when there are cemeteries next to the airports… bad omen? 😉 We had to go down some bad stairs and I was not comfortable with walking down so I stayed higher up on the stairs. That meant for me that I had to cut off the photographers heads from my pics. 😉 And the other group from the evening before was there as well. But I got nice pics anyway and had fun. When we came back to the hotel we went for breakfast and I liked the serrano-ham. Looked like someone had taken a bite but it was cut. 🙂
During the day we were free so I slept a bit while the rest of the group walked into Funchal. I sat on my balcony a bit as well from where I could see the harbor with the first cruise ship. In the afternoon we left again to take pics along the North-East coast close to Canical. We were hit by some rain but only a bit so we could enjoy taking pics again. From there we went a bit more to the East to Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto. That was a beautiful place. The only problem was that the wind was so strong that for the first time in my life I was holding on to the rail with one hand while holding on to my tripod with the other one. Wasn’t the last time I had to do that though. 😀
There was a beautiful view over the cliffs but in the other direction there was a nice view as well. For sunset we went over to a place close by to check out the other direction but in the end there was no real sunset. Too many clouds. But we still had fun. Once we were back in Funchal we went to a really good restaurant ‚A hole in the wall‘. The waiters were fun and the food was good.
