Norway 2024 – Finnsnes 1

The next morning we got up early, were the first ones at breakfast and then left Skjervoy when it was still dark. We knew that we didn’t have that many hours of daylight so we tried to manage as best as possible. We had to go off the island and then reach the main road again. My idea was to see the Lyngen fjord by day for once. I have been there several times in the nights for northern lights but I wanted to see it by day for once. Unfortunately it was COLD and you can see how much ice we saw along the road. Norway is good with handling this and the snowblowers take away the snow. Issue is that the ice stays.
We went up a hill to take pics of a red church (very nice in white snow). We stopped at the swing of Lyngenfjord but didn’t go down to it as it would have been too dangerous (slippery). Along the way there were a lot if icicles at the edge of the road. Frozen little waterfalls. When we came more to the south the sky opened up a bit and instead of grey we had some pastell colors in the sky – which is why I love winter in the arctic regions so much.
We were about to reach Finnsnes when we saw an elk in a field next to the road. We turned around and saw it walking over the street in front of us. A wonderful majestic animal.
Then we arrived in our appartment in Finnsnes, had a look from our balcony ove the water (we were on a hill) and the appartment was really nice. Later we went into the city to do some shopping but didn’t stay very long because we didn’t know how the parking worked so we couldn’t stay long. So we just jumped into the supermarket, the pharmacy and took a short walk in the park next to city hall and that was it. Northern lights – didn’t happen because it was snowing too hard. 😉
