Norway 2024 Tromso

Norway 2024 Tromso

So this year I did it again…. 😀 In November I went back to Norway but this year it was a bit different. Last year I had done two orca tours with electro ferries from Tromso and that made me lick blood. 😉 So I booked another week with the orcas which was requiring a stay in Skjervoy. So I flew in to Tromso again. And it was raining… looks like this year there was mostly bad weather in Northern Norway. Not only for a day or two but for months… So when I arrived I got my – damaged – suitcase at the airport. At the luggage belt I saw a big box full of drones. And there was a sign that said that all these drones had been confiscated because they had been flown in areas where it was not allowed…. Well, I knew that in Tromso it was not allowed so I knew better than to fly it there. 😉 But that evening it was raining hard anyway so I just got something to eat and then to sleep because it had been a long day. I had two nights in Tromso. The next morning I went out for a walk because I knew that rain should cease a bit but take up again later in the day. So I could do some of my usual sight seeing. It was not dark so the rainbow colours on some buildings are not very visible on my pics. That week was Arctic Pride. But there does not seem to be a parade like we have in Cologne for Christopher Street Day.
That evening I did the usual that I do in Tromso… I went chasing northern lights with Marianne. 😀 For weeks they mostly had to go to Finnland to see northern lights so again we started to head there. When we were at Skibotn/Lyngenfjord there was some green in a hole in the clouds so we stopped to take a few pics. It was not a big show so we got back in the car soon and headed into Finnland. I learned that Finnland has a different time zone. That was actually a surprise. I didn’t know that.
After a while we stopped. We had seen the sky with stars but no aurora yet. But we couldn’t go to the end of the world so we stopped and set up camp. And waited for green in the sky. And waited. And waited… BUT – nothing. So I did what I had planned to do in this case (and I knew that Marianne is interested in stuff like that) I took out my tubes and we did some light painting. It was fun. Even the couple from Sri Lanka had fun. 😉 After a while it was time to head back to Tromso. That was a 3 hours drive. If you have to do this for weeks – I don’t think it would be fun for me… 😉
