Norway 2024 Skjervoy 1
The next morning it was – raining…. I didn’t have a lot to do all day because in the afternoon I was supposed to take the ferry to Skjervoy. But wait… I think I should get used to weather being a factor that is easily disrupting your plans. That day I heard from a friend who was supposed to fly in to Tromso but her flight was cancelled. And my ferry was cancelled as well. So I had to take the bus in the afternoon. I knew that a group that was going on the sailing boot that I had been on three years ago was taking the same bus so I looked for people who might be in that group. I found an amazing couple from California who were part of that group and we started to chat until the bus left.
Our trip was a 4 hours ride with two ferries and one change of bus. And norwegian public transportation is AMAZING. No car was allowed on the ferry until the bus arrived. Once we arrived at the ferry (it was actually two busses because flights so Sorkjosen had been cancelled that morning as well so a lot of people had to take the bus) cars were allowed on. Everyone drove on the ferry, bus last. Close the doors and off we were. We could go off the bus and buy food on the ferry. There was no sales personal on the ferry. If you wanted to buy something you had to take it, scan it and pay by card. Easy. In the bus all the stops were shown on a board and that worked via GPS. Amazing… I heard afterwards that it is possible as well to get the live location from a bus and you can follow up on where it is on an app. Germany should take an example from that… 😉
After we switched busses I had a new seat neighbour who started to talk to me (didn’t matter if I listened or not 😉 ) and it turned out very fast that he was one of the group I had been looking for as well. When we arrived Sven and Anja from Northern Explorers were waiting for us. I didn’t have to get a ride from them since the bus stop was in front of my hotel. So I greeted them and left. And on the stairs to the hotel I suddenly realized that I was carrying only two bags instead of three. I had left my photo-bag in the parking lot. So I ran back but everyone had left and no bag there. So I called Anja and it turned out that Sven had put everything in the car. Halleluja. 😀
Just to explain what happened the next days… originally I had booked a trip on a private boat that Northern Explorers do a lot with film crews and photographers. Only there had been a mix up of the dates. So Sven had called me and said that they would book me on a small boat most days but I should go on the sailing boat for two of the days as the other company had been booked out those days. I didn’t have any issue with that because I like the sailing boat – if I don’t have to live on it. 😀 So the next day I went on the sailing boat and went out with the group that I had met on the bus. And the day after I went out with a small boat. Weather was OK so we had our share of whales that we could see…. On one of the last pics you can see the sailing boat. As I was on the other boat. 🙂
