Iceland/Greenland 1
Yeah, I have not updated the blog for a while and I still need to report on my trip to Sardinia in June but I promise that this will follow. 😉 For now this is about my trip to Iceland from where I plan to fly over to Greenland again. I came to Reykjavik yesterday and not sure when the next blog entry will be done as we don’t have Wifi in Greenland. Well, generally there is Wifi in Greenland of course but not in the Icecamp. 😉
So yesterday I flew out of Duesseldorf over to Copenhagen and from there to Keflavik. I had a seat close to the window to Keflavik (not window seat) so I could take some pics (not sure my window-seat neighbour liked me 😀 😉 ) We were on the side that I thought to be the good one for the volcanoes but we might have flown just above it. I didn’t see anything. We arrived 30 minutes early, luggage took some time to get out but then I went out directly into the Flybus to Reykjavik.
Along the way we could see the latest eruption. Lava must be thrown high in the air constantly as it looks like there is a solid orange pilar. But not very good to see on the pics. During daylight lava is not that visible. Arrived at the bus terminal BSI in Reykjavik and was surprised as a huge construction site was next to it and if I understood correctly they built a new hospital center there. But it was a real big area with a lot of buildings. From BSI I took the green area bus that brought me to my hotel.
Once arrived I got in contact with someone I had never met but she was with someone I DO know. 😉 It was a coincidence that a canadian friend that I hadn’t seen for 16 years had her last night in Iceland yesterday and even stranger was that her travel agency for reasons unknown had switched their hotel to a new one which was just around the corner from mine. 🙂 Very comfortable for us. 😉 So I walked over to meet them and we had dinner in a very nice restaurant with prices that were not excessive. But food was really good! 🙂 After dinner we walked over to the Sun Voyager to take some pics and I was not too happy about two guys who thought that they needed to show off with Jet-Skies behind the sculpture. They most definitely were not there to see the sculpture. In normal times I might have walked over to the Harpa again but at this point I had already walked too much that day (airports have long walks and I under-estimated that) so I needed to go back to my hotel. But it was great to meet an old friend and catch up. Even if it was not enough time to cover 16 years and a huge group of common friends. 😉
This morning I checked the weather forecast and around lunch time the rain was supposed to start. I had known that the weather forecast for the first three days of my trip was less than good. So I went for a morning walk even if my legs were still very tired. I walked along Laugavegur which is the shopping street in Reykjavik. There are some changes that I noticed. A lot of new murals as well. I walked around for about 2 hours and then rested the rest of the day. Unfortunately I still can’t walk too much so I better listen to my body when it screams at me. 😉 Hopefully tomorrow I will fly over to Greenland but with an upcoming storm I am not very confident that this is going to happen. But since Icelanders seem to be used to conditions like that (like the Norwegians) I am confident that this is going to work out somehow. 😉 At the airport I will try to find the rest of my group so if the flight is delayed it will be easier if we have to wait in a group.
