Sortland part 1
I am not continuing by day… I flew to Sortland because I wanted to see something new and explore new places. What I didn’t know though initially was that there is only one tour operator who does tours. And minimum participants: 2. I travelled alone. So I was told that I had to pay for 2 if I wanted to go on tour. Norway is not cheap and if you have to pay for 2 when you are only 1 – that was more than I could afford and that is why I stayed much less in Sortland than I had initially thought. When flying over I had to fly Wideroe again. Small plane. 😀 No problem for the flight to Stokmarknes which was delayed – and continued to Bodo. But – for my trip to the Lofoten I had contacted the taxi companies beforehand to know if there was a car available for the flights. For Stomarknes (about 25 km from Sortland) I hadn’t done that. Mistake… 😀 I was outside of the airport – one man standing or something like that. Nobody alive to be seen anywhere except a bus. I asked the driver if he was going to Sortland (I had read somewhere that there were busses over to Sortland) and he closed the door. So I stood there and had to find out how to get a taxi. I saw a number for calling a taxi but that was without the pre-fix for Norway. So I checked the website on my phone and there was a button to call. Yeehaaaaw… 😉
So I finally was on my way to Sortland. It was dark so I couldn’t see any of the landscape. I arrived at my hotel and had dinner there. The next morning I saw that I had a really nice room with view to sunrise and sunset over the fjord. I really enjoyed that room. Went for a walk the first day. Sortland is called the ‚Blue city‘ because a lot of the houses at some point were painted in blue. It was supposed to be all houses I think but that is not the case. Sortland is not big so it wasn’t difficult to walk around the city center in a short time. There are two shopping malls next to each other and I found a sauna next to my hotel. There is a pier in front of my hotel where I went in the evening to take pics of the bridge illuminated in pink. I heard that this was some kind of ‚cancer support‘. It is not always illuminated in pink….
