Relaxation Day

When I woke up the sun was shining and I thought that finally the weather had decided to get better. I had some plans for today but had no idea that it would turn out completely different from what I had thought. Plan was to do 2 dives today. Did the first one as planned. We went to the island where in former times the guys had to swim over to get the birds egg to become birdman. The dive was great as the visibility was incredible. The ocean is 60-80 metres (I think 180-240 ft) eep and you could see the ground (maximum depth for us was 26 metres – 78 ft.) My bad luck started when I touched a sea urchin (Seeigel) which was above my head and I hadn’t seen. Then I had problems with my camera and finally when we came out of the water it was raining cats and dogs. Okay, no problem….

We went back to Hanga Roa and my plan was to do a second dive this afternoon. The sea was a rough and when I wanted to get out of the boat a wave hit it and I bumped into one of the tanks with my right foot. In a matter of seconds I had a blue egg on my foot. I couldn’t really believe how fast my foot changed shape and colour… it did hurt a little bit in the beginning but that stopped soon. Still, I decided it was better to go to a doctor as it looked really bad. One of the guys from the dive shop drove me to the hospital (another one for my collection… 😀 😀 😀 ) and a doc had a look at it. I wasn’t sure if they would have to cut it to let the blood out but he just told me to keep it higher up and put ice on it for 4 hours. So I did what he told me to do and it is much smaller now. On the way back from the hospital Patricia, my taxi driver from yesterday, found me and when she saw my foot she told me to jump in and she drvoe me back to my hotel. Further she offered that she would go and get ice for me if they had any at the hotel. She is really great! I hope to be able to go diving again tomorrow morning. Will look strange though tonight when I am going to see a show and I am only wearing one shoe… the funny thing is that now the people from Hanga Roa greet me when I walk by on the streets… not sure how many of them I saw at the hospital this morning… 😉 😉 😉

Sorry, no pics today…
